I continue to be fascinated with mash ups.

I just came across a new album by Girl Talk, which features some 350 plus samples from a lot of different sources – including Simon & Garfunkel, InXs, John Lennon, Black Sabbath, Arcade Fire, Jay-Z, Herbie Hancock, The Clash, U2, Third Eye Blind, Bananarama, Justin Timberlake, Lady GaGa as well as a lot of rap and rock music sources that are less familiar (to me anyway).

You can download the whole project from this site.

But what was more interesting to me was that someone has created a data visualization in flash of the sources of the samples that play in real time against the songs. Now this is really worth looking at. Very cool use of flash and generated some interesting creative ideas for me in how music can be depicted in video… particularly if you use the capability of flash to create jump points based on the decision of the viewer.

This kind of data visualization could be really interesting to use in demonstrating time lines for projects, the potential market for an innovation… I can see a lot of potential for this…
